The pressure to take a “good” photo

The pressure to take a “good” photo

We have been taught that a photo has to earn its place. It has to be beautiful, interesting, flattering, worthy of posting.

So we begin to start looking at our lives through that lens.

Is the light good enough ?

Is this place pretty enough ?

Will anyone care?

even…do I look good enough ? (no messages on your answers please !)

Slowly , though, photography becomes less about noticing, it becomes another way to judge ourselves.

We end up waiting for the perfect holiday, the perfect weather , the perfectly clean , polished kitchen, the interesting day , the better version of ourselves.

However, your life is happening now, before you have had the chance to get the Mr Sheen out

It’s that unmade bed, the socks on the floor, the shoes by the door, that cold cup of tea, the changing light in your room, the washing up in the sink.

What if a photo did not need to prove your life was beautiful ?

What if it only needed to tell the truth

This was here

I was here

I noticed

the camera does not need to have to be a judge, it could simply be a way back to your own attention.

You do not need to travel somewhere popular or pretty to make a meaningful image, or make your ordinary life look extraordinary

You only need to look more closely at the life in front of you

Today - take one photo that is no “good”, take it because it feels true, no need to share it, just notice
