What is Negative Space and how can it change your Photographs?
There is no such thing as nothing.
Nothing is made up from something.
It's full of meaning.
Seeing space between two objects is seeing something.
If you have ever cleaned up the house, you may have noticed that having less clutter around you creates a sense of serenity, calm, peace. You are creating ...space.

Your space assignment is: instead of seeing objects, shift your intention towards seeing space.
The space that surrounds things.
By reducing fixation on objects, you open yourself up to seeing more, your mind opens up more, but because you are in tune to seeing objects this assignment can be tricky at first.
1. Choose to see objects as the frames and anchors for space, when you manage this, space becomes the dominant element in your images.
1. Look to your right. Look to your left. Now, slowly, look back to your right, this time notice how your vision jumps from object to object. Notice how your vision misses the space between each object.
1. Now repeat it again and notice the space between the objects, as if the objects are framing the space .
1. Translate this to your images.
An old poem about the space between objects - the Japanese call it MA.
Thirty spokes meet in the hub,
though the space between them is the essence of the wheel.
Pots are formed from clay,
though the space inside them is the essence of the pot.
Walls with windows and doors form the house,
though the space within them is the essence of the house.
