Capturing Stillness: Mindful Moments Through the Lens

"The creative process, like a spiritual journey, is intuitive, non-linear, and experiential. It points us toward our essential nature, which is a reflection of the boundless creativity of the universe."

“Seeing the small is called clarity” - The Tao

Go nowhere in order to listen

1. Not trying to please

Set yourself the challenge of taking photos of your garden, or your back yard, just where you are, for the next couple of months. Visually limit yourself with no concern about what another will think about your images. Too often we are driven to take images to please others, to gain likes on social media. For this challenge, this is just for yourself, no one else.

2. Acceptance of where you are

When practicing this, you will be experiencing seeing without expectation, without commentary. You are practicing seeing without thinking about what you are framing in your viewfinder as " right" or " wrong", with no concern for rules . Forgetting what it is to be told how to see, and instead slowing down in these moments.. to listen to your inner voice ..

Many of us have forgotten what its like to reconnect to our inner self, our small, quiet inner voice.

3. Be childlike

We forget what it was like to be as curious as we were when we were little.

One memory I have as a child is discovering an old overgrown garden and empty house in the road next to the one I grew up in.

Although we never went into the house, I was with my brother and I think a couple of his friends, we played in the garden.

I have a memory of rusty water filled old buckets and troughs.

Exploring where we are, is so important, it helps us slow down and accept who we are , without trying to hide our age, or worry about what society expects from us. It teaches us to listen to our inner voice, and practice what is calling you, a passion, an engagement to the now.

Practice staying in one place, wherever that one place is, if its the garden, the balcony, the yard, a pathway by your home.

See what happens when you are open and receptive to what is without labels.

It's a fascinating, compassionate and rewarding adventure to just not have the desire to go anywhere except where you are.

Going nowhere has many lessons.
